History: Young Professionals started in collaboration with the Waco Chamber of Commerce. As part of the Chamber's 2005 Plan of Action, 10 major breakthrough initiatives were stated as the Chamber's focus for 2005-2009. The Young Professionals Committee was created to target one of these breakthrough initiatives, which states:
Leverage the resources of the region's colleges and universities to support employers who require persons with college and advanced degrees and attract and retain a younger, more qualified and educated workforce.
This breakthrough initiative was created to address concerns regarding the decline in the 25- to 35-year-old population in Waco, which accounts for a growing percentage of the present local workforce and the future business leadership of our community. Young Professionals is open to anyone who would like to contribute, including the "young at heart."
Mission: Shape and promote Waco's quality of life to attract and retain a labor force of educated 25- to 35-year-olds by establishing partnerships, leadership and creating communication.
Membership: More than 450 area YPs
